TRAVELLING TO COIMBRA

Travelling to Coimbra

Coimbra is in the centre of Portugal at about 200 km from Lisbon and 100 km from Porto. It is easily reached by car from Lisbon or Porto following the A1 motorway. If you are travelling by plane to Portugal you will arrive either to Lisbon or Porto. Travelling from both cities to Coimbra can be done by train, bus or car.

Travelling to Coimbra from Lisbon

By train

Hourly trains connect Lisbon – Oriente (except at night) and Coimbra-B, the train station at Coimbra. The easiest way to get to Oriente station is by taxi. There are two types of train: 1. Alfa Pendular that is more comfortable; 2. Intercidades (IC) that is cheaper but the trip will take about 15 minutes more. Both trains will get you to Coimbra-B where you can pick up a taxi for your hotel. Timetable and prices at www.cp.pt

By bus

The bus company from Lisbon to Coimbra is “rede de expressos”. The bus station or “rodoviaria” is further from the airport than Oriente train station. The easiest way to get there is by taxi. Timetable at www.rede-expressos.pt


By car

Renting a car at Lisbon Airport is easy. From Lisbon airport to Coimbra follow the signs for A1-Norte and leave the motorway in Coimbra-Sul. You can find information on the car-rental companies at the airport.


Travelling to Coimbra from Porto

By train

From Porto Airport you need to go to Campanhã Station. You can either take a taxi from the airport or the surface metro. There is a subway station at the airport, the only line going to the airport will take you to Campanhã in about 35 minutes. For more information please go to www.metrodoporto.pt.
